Love Found in the Walls of an Old House

What would you do if you stumbled upon a divorce decree with your name on it in the walls of an old house? However, instead of ending up in a divorce, you find a love that never knew existed.

Kylie Scott’s novel follows Susie Bowen, who inherits a fixer-upper from her aunt. However, she discovers that her contractor is Lars, her ex’s best friend, who witnessed their public and embarrassing breakup six months ago. Susie is not thrilled to have Lars around, but she needs the repairs done quickly. Things take a turn when Lars discovers a divorce certificate hidden in the walls of the house, dated ten years in the future, with both their names on it. As they try to figure out the origins of the certificate, Susie and Lars begin to feel a spark between them. But can they make a relationship work, or is it doomed before it even starts?

What I Love about the story:

Unique premise: The idea of a divorce certificate dated in the future with the couple’s names on it is an intriguing and unique concept that sets the stage for an interesting story.

Opposites-attract trope: The classic trope of two people who seem like they would never be compatible falling for each other is executed well and adds an extra layer of tension to the story.

Top-notch banter: The characters’ witty banter and playful teasing make for an entertaining read.

Character development: Both Susie and Lars have well-developed backstories and personalities, making them relatable and engaging.

What I didn’t Like:

Slow pacing: Some readers may find the story to be slow-paced, especially during the parts where Susie and Lars are trying to unravel the origins of the divorce certificate.

In conclusion, Kylie Scott’s novel is a sweet and spicy romance with an interesting premise, well-developed characters, and enjoyable banter. While some readers may find the pacing slow, those who enjoy the opposites-attract trope and unique premises will find this book to be an entertaining and enjoyable read.

Book Summary:

Fans of bestsellers like In Five Years will fall for this unexpected love story about a woman and her contractor who discover a divorce decree with their names on it … dated ten years in the future.

When Susie inherits a charming fixer-upper from her aunt, she’s excited to start living her best HGTV-life. But when she opens the door to find that her contractor is none other than her ex’s (very good looking) best friend Lars—the same man who witnessed their humiliating public break-up 6 months ago—she isn’t exactly eager to have him around. But, beggars can’t be choosers and the sooner the repairs are done, the sooner she can get back to grudgingly accepting the single life.

Things go from awkward to unbelievable when Lars knocks down a bedroom wall and finds a divorce certificate dated ten years from now…with both their names on it. It couldn’t possibly be real…could it? As Susie and Lars try to unravel the document’s origins, the impossibility of a spark between them suddenly doesn’t seem so far-fetched. But is any kind of relationship between them doomed before it’s ever begun?
