So, go ahead and give it a try if you’re feeling brave enough. Just make sure you’ve got your straightjacket on standby!
Look no further than “Just the Nicest Couple” by Mary Kubica. The story follows two couples, Lily and Christian Scott and Jacob and Nina Hayes, who find themselves intertwined in a mystery when Jacob goes missing. The story is told from the perspectives of Christian and Nina, leading the reader down one designated path for most of the book.
The fast pace of the novel keeps you on edge, with the tension ramping up as Nina continues to investigate Jacob’s disappearance. The plot is full of twists and turns, with the normal red herring along the way, making it impossible to guess the outcome. The author’s writing style keeps you hooked and makes it difficult to put the book down.
What makes this book stand out is the character development. Christian is depicted as a committed and loving husband who will go to great lengths to protect Lily. However, as the story progresses, the reader begins to see that his commitment to Lily is slowly making him unhinged. The same can be said for Nina, who is depicted as a strong and determined character, but as the mystery unfolds, she too becomes consumed by the investigation.
The author does an excellent job of building tension and suspense. As the story progresses, the reader is left wondering what will happen next, and the ending is sure to surprise you. Whether you’re a fan of domestic thrillers or not, “Just the Nicest Couple” is sure to provide a captivating and thrilling read.
This was my first Mary Kubica novel, and I must admit, I’m now a fan. Her writing style is engaging, and the story is well-crafted, making it easy to understand why she’s such a popular author. I highly recommend “Just the Nicest Couple” to anyone looking for a thrilling and unpredictable novel.
This is my first Mary Kubica novel and after reading this one I must wonder why I have waited so long to try her writing.
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys domestic thrillers with predictable endings OR not. I just dabble so it is very understandable I have more “WTF Just Happen” experiences.
I think it’s time for me to read THE OTHER MRS. especially since it has been optioned as a movie by Netflix.
A husband’s disappearance links two couples in this twisty thriller from New York Times bestselling author Mary Kubica
Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.
Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.
