Burn Down The Night had my full attention from Chapter One!This is my first M O’Keefe read and while it can be read as a standalone, it is a spin-off to the previous books Everything I Left Unsaid and The Truth About Him.
It follows the choices Joan makes in her attempt to rescue her sister from a cult entwined with a Motorcycle Club known as THE SKULLS. She is a former stripper working at the MC’s club who managed to get away from the life however leaving her sister behind.
Max Daniels finds his loyalty to his MC completely shattered. Even as President, the club has no loyalty to him and there is dissension in the ranks. The Club controls the drug traffic in a small North Carolina town. When Joan’s unconventional plan to rescue her sister goes wrong with car bombs, gunshots, and beatings she is left with one final link to her sister. Max finds himself an unwilling participant to keep Joan alive as well. She does not care about the collateral damage that may follow as long as her sister is found and rescued.
Joan and Max have always been attracted to each other. Each of them are trying to deny the sexual tension. The sexual play between Joan and Max is devastating powerful considering they never touch each other in half of the book. Yet, you are left with some red-hot sex to devour throughout the story. It’s packed with erotic intensity and panty-soaking scenes of delicious sex.
The character’s role reversals are perfection. Instead of the “female stripper” as victim, we have a kick ass heroine who is on a mission with a mad masterplan to blow some shit up if she has to. Max Daniels as the bad boy outlaw biker President chain to the bed as victim is perfect and unique.
The story deals with unpleasant topics from drug trafficking, kidnapping, and cults with suicide pills. As a romance, I have not read anything quite like it. If you are looking for a romance heavy on themes of family and loyalty written well, this is the story for you.
The secondary characters including Aunt Fern and Eric are beautiful to keep you invested in all the character’s journey. The plot is pure testosterone fueled drama. You can actually give it your boyfriend/husband to read and they would say “This is some good shit”. It has grit that will appeal to both men and women for the drama and the sex.
The only thing that matters to me is rescuing my sister from the drug-cooking cult that once enslaved us both. I’ve run cons my whole life, and I’ll use my body to get whatever I need. Max Daniels is the last connection I have to that world, the one person reckless enough to get involved. Besides, now that his brothers have turned on him, he needs me too.
The deal was supposed to be simple: a place to hide in exchange for rescuing my sister. Now he’s my prisoner. Totally at my mercy. But I’m the one captivated. Enthralled. Doing everything he asks of me until I’m not sure who’s in control.
We both crave the heat. The more it hurts, the better. But what if Max wants a different life now, to leave the game . . . to love me? I thought I knew better than to get burned. Now I’m in too deep to pull away. And the crazy thing is . . . I don’t want to.
