If you stumble upon the Abandon Series by Jeannine Colette, you may notice a trend. It appears the angst is derived from characters who are attached or in a relationship. (no spoilers here)
While Crystal Reid is seeking love via online dating, she walks into a random bar and become friends with the bartender, Nate Teller. He appears to live day by day with no worries. Crystal is busy speed dating through the online profiles and Nate is busy dismissing each and every one of them.
He has a secret that keeps himself guarded from getting closer to Crystal. While she is trying to find happily ever after, they both don’t realize how each of them are being drawn to each other. I laughed, I cried and I sniff with a few tears in between the laughter.
Jeannine’s writing is continuously good. A compelling storyteller with a knack for forgiveness, moving forward and embracing the good that comes your way.
When the truth emerges, it’s so heartbreaking it makes you second guess what is sacred and honorable. While Nate is somewhat damage, his world as he knows suddenly stops and he begins to question can he have a new start.
The characters are so true and real, they can step off the pages. The plot was surprising and perfect. The character development created a truckload of revelations. It’s both a deeply emotional and sexy read.
In the end, the family dynamic becomes strange and odd. However, it takes a great writer to pull it off and not make the reader say “Nooo, that is so wrong”
