A dark romance about the lies that lead us down…
I’ll do anything to get safe, even if that means working at the scariest club in town.
I’ll do anything to stay hidden, even if it means taking off my clothes for strangers.
I’ll do anything to be free. Except give him up. When he looks at me, I forget why I can’t have him. He’s beautiful and scarred. His body fits mine, filling the places where I’m hollow, rough where I am soft.
He’s the one man who wants to help, but he has his own agenda. He has questions I can’t answer. What are you afraid of?
My review for Love the Way You Lie by Skye Warren is a 4 KINK read.
Love The Way You Lie was a great introduction to the Stripped Series. As an audio, the narration did have a period of adjustment. I enjoyed the narrator’s dialogue as spoken by the characters. However, the general tone of the story was very slow with a monotone voice. As I continue to listen to the chapters, I made a conscious effort to concentrate on the story and not the narrator’s voice.
In the beginning, I will admit I was just listening to a story. I did not find myself holding on to the edge of my seat. I was not invested. When I research the series, I discovered a prequel existed for the Stripped series; I immediately read Tough Love (the prequel). Loved it! See my review posted here ~ http://bit.ly/1RB7l2x
What a world of difference. It help tremendously to know some background regarding the story of a stripper and her sister in hiding from the MOB. My suggestion for reading this series: read Tough Love (The Prequel) first to fully enjoy Love the Way You Lie.
The first book is about Honor, aka Honey. After reading the prequel, I was surprise it was Honor’s story. Honor and Clara, her sister, are on the run and hiding from her father, the don of the mafia family and her abusive fiancée Byron. It takes place 6 months after the end of Tough Love. In this book we find out why Honor decided to leave with Clara.
Honor is working as a stripper at a nightclub. She is looking for information regarding the death of her mother. She believes her father may be responsible and she is seeking evidence to prove it. The owner of the club may be able to help her. In exchange she works as a stripper .
A patron of the club, Kip, comes in one night requesting Honey to dance for him. Immediately, Honor is weary and concern about who he is and what he wants. He states he wants to help her because he sense she is afraid. While Honor accepts his cat and mouse game to “rescue” her she is very cautious.
Kip begins to show more interest in Honey. He wants to protect her. He is concern for her and her safety. Honor wonders why he is showing such an interest but finds herself drawn to him. Kip has secrets of his own. Everyone at the club may know more about him while Honey remains in the dark.
What I love most about this book were the secrets unfolding as the book progress. The characters are not who they appear to be. While I did not care for Byron, I certainly did not like her father. He was a very cruel person and it made me want to take him out personally.
I love Honor and Kip’s story. It’s not your standard cliché “I’m in love with a stripper”. Honor is a strong woman who is very protective of her younger sister and will do whatever it takes to keep both of them safe, even if it takes working in a strip joint while patrons pay her for sex. Just when you think you have the story figured out, another twist appears and you will find yourself saying “Oh no, I didn’t see that one coming.” I love the story; it had its dark moments however it was not over saturated with dark themes. I will continue to read the remaining books in the series. I can’t wait to read Clara’s story.
I was gifted this audio in exchange for an honest review.
