My name is Arturo King, and I’m told I’m a legend in music. My band is called Nights and we got our start at the Round Table in New York City.
Raised by a foster father, I didn’t know the extent of my inheritance until I was twenty-one, and it was all more than I bargained for. I wanted to play the guitar and rule the world with song, but I learned I have a mother from old money, a dead father who was once a real estate mogul, and a record company that needed some rebuilding.
Mure Linn, my friend and mentor, has been by my side through it all, teaching me to play, strengthening my lyrics, and guiding me in the music industry. There was one area he couldn’t guide me, though, and that was love.
Guinevere DeGrance changed everything for me, I suppose, including the reason I’m here learning the legend of my life without remembering any of it.
5 KINKS REVIEW
I wanted to read this story in preparation for the release of The Trials of Guinevere DeGrance on September 14th.
This story grabs your attention from the first page and makes you feel as if you are about to take a journey like none before. Where has this book been all my life? As I was reading the story, my heart was fluttering. It’s very sensual, romantic and seductive. It has two things I cannot say no to: rock stars and the famous meet cute. When Arturo sees Guinevere in the club while performing he immediately wants to know who she is.
With all the success of the band, Arturo feels something is missing from his life ~ that illusive Holy Grail….in my opinion I believe to be love.
That is until he meets Guinevere, daughter of his mentor, Leo DeGrance. Guinevere has been shielded from the rock star lifestyle. Innocent and burden by her famous father, she is looking for a place to make her mark in life separate from her father’s shadow. What starts out as a simple friendship, quickly turns into a muse for Arturo. And like all heroes, he has his allies (bandmates) and enemies along the way (his quest) who test his resolve.
As he nears the end of the quest (relationship with Guinevere) he comes face to face with one final ordeal. If he can make this final quest successful, he may have his HEA.
L B Dunbar tells the story of Arturo King, legendary rock god, and his band, The Nights. They were mentored and groomed at the famous underground bar: The Round Table. If all this imagery sounds familiar, it should. It’s a metaphor for romantic fiction based on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
She has made this literary classic relevant, timeless, and reinvented it for modern day and applied it to the lives of rock stars.
A constant theme throughout the story is chivalry. Like the literary hero, Arturo King is depicted as chivalrous. That is very evident when he meets Guinevere.
He tells Guinevere as she opens her car door while he runs to her side:
“Wait for me next time, okay……I will always open the door for you”
The story comes complete with all the necessary items. The Quest of the Holy Grail becomes LOVE. Camelot becomes Camelot Records. Excalibur becomes a 1956 Les Paul guitar and a tattoo.
My heart did a happy dance as I read this story. Arturo was amazing. He courted Guinevere, seduced her and refuse to treat her like a groupie. The anticipation of building their friendship from a walk in the park to Guinevere’s sexual awakening was like a slow burn of embers in a fire. As the burn turn into a flame, the heat and fire that generated afterwards was scorching.
There were times when Arturo wanted slow and sensuous lovemaking and Guinevere wanted fast and hard. Arturo being the honorable man that he is, gives her what she wants.
In closing, this book is a 5 kinks read. The only thing I did not like about it was this: I should have read it earlier. I would have loved to live in the moment of waiting for the next book in the series. As it is, I can now happily anticipate the release of book 5.
